Speaker suggestion

Postby crissoliva » Mon Jul 23, 2018 10:02 pm

Hi everyone. I'm planning to replace the speaker of my Laney Aor 30 Combo amp. (it has G12T75 now)
Need suggestions about perfect match for this amp.
Thanks.

I like the AOR 30 with the old Fane speakers they originally came with back in the 80's (Laney switched to Celestion for the American market because it was a better known brand here); they're nice and smooth and fat. But my AOR 30 sounds good plugged into other cabs loaded with Vintage 30s, G12T75s, Mesa C90s, too.

What kind of change in tone are you trying to accomplish by changing the speaker?

There is no perfect match. Depend what you like. I'm using mix of V30 with G12T . Also I'm using HH speakers. Love em a lot. Other option I'm gonna try is Jensen Raptor.

Thanks for the replies. I had few tries too with other cabs. 2x12 v30 sounds really good but i don't know what will be the sound v30 in its own cab. You told that "Laney switched to Celestion for the American market..." do you know which model of celestion?

If memory serves, they switched from the Fane to the Celestion G12-65, which has a similar mid scoop to the modern G12T75 but is much brighter in the high end.

I did run my AOR 30 through a friend's 2x12 Peavey cab loaded with the G12-65 speakers once and they can sound harsh if you push the treble or presence too far, but sound good with them backed off a bit.
