AOR PRO-TUBE 50 ISSUE

Postby kringe » Wed Jul 30, 2008 2:30 am

Alright guys, I've learned a great deal about my aor50 just reading your various related posts. Here goes: I recently changed my preamp tubes (4 12ax7), and my power tubes (2 el34) all Electro-Harmonix tubes. I heard a crackling noise at the High Input jack, and thought it was my cable. Got new cable, still cuts in and out at Input if I touch the cable. I took the chassis back off, cleaned all contacts and input jacks with contact cleaner, let it sit for a while, and now I don't have the input noise when I touch the cable, but my power is down to about a third of what it was. I can get a distortion sound with preamp and AOR channel, but there's just no power behind it. Any thoughts before I take it to someone I don't know? I feel I am getting closer to acheiving the tone I read about, but this has set me back.

bad solder joint ?...don't know how proficient you are with a soldering iron but i would start by reheating the preamp tube joints and go from there. it worked on a bedrock amp i had w/ similar symptoms. please heed the normal cautions when opening up your amp....might try the chopstick probe as well.
