Laney AOR pro tube 100 (Need quick reply)

Postby laneysman90 » Mon May 19, 2008 10:52 pm

I found a guy with a Laney AOR pro tube 100 watt head for sale. He said he had a decent time with it.. but when he first got it he said it sounded "wierd" but once he got used it it sounded good. He said he just kept it in the studio and only used it for solo's (whatever that means). He says he put a couple new pre amp tubes in. Also he says that he wants to say the power tubes are EH and that to him they still sound "OK".

Here are some pictures of it:

On the front and top of the amp, there seems to be some like brownish smudges.. either that's like some sort of brown paint... or he has been digging in his crack alot.

In the picture with the power tubes... the 3rd one looks like it's burned inside... I dont know though.

What do you think? for $225 and about 40 shipping
Amps:
Laney GH100TI
Randall RS125CX
Laney Pro Tube AOR 30 Watt Combo

Epiphone SG
Dean Splittail

Have you played through it? If not, does he guarantee that it is playable? That power tube doesn't look good from here. I'm guessing that thing probably has a build date of around 1985. Has the metal corners, and an early 1000 series serial number.
If the amp has a clean bill of health, I'd say it'd be a steal at the price you quoted. I just don't know about it's health, though, simply by looking at the pics.

It will probably need a complete re-tube and biasing.
ask him to take some more pictures of the chassis.
It sounds like a good price, especially if you are familiar
with tube amp maintenance.
