OD pedal in front of VH100R

Postby scottWTBR » Fri Feb 26, 2010 11:57 pm

I bought myself a Digitech Bad Monkey to use with my VH- the aim being to "tighten" up the distortion channel a bit. Also because I cant stop tinkering with my sound (which normally means buying stuff!).

Anyone else using an OD in this way?- the level is turned right up, gain all the way down- filters out a lot of the crap high end and low end flub, should end up with a nice beasting low mid heavy tone.

My rig is 30 miles away though so its gonna be another week before I can try it!
i play in a post-rock band, of course there's no vocals :)

With a high gain amp like the VH, I would keep the OD's level at about noon, you don't need to push it too hard.

Or donate the pedal to a Marshall user..
It's a VH,no "tightening" needed, I'd think.

I finally got to try this- I wouldn't exactly say there was "more" gain, but it was different- a bit more agressive if that makes sense, definitely a bit more attack when doing palm mutes which is kinda what I was looking for.

I guess using the boost is like adding another channel so cant be bad- can never have too many options!

Nothing wrong with more options, lots of people out there boost. I love the sound and feel of a boosted amp, nothing else like it.

Scott, if you want to tighten up your tone, I thoroughly recommend a BBE Sonic Stomp Maximiser (the foot-pedal version).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yyPbJq5O3M

It's not an EQ. Guitar speakers struggle to process the full range of frequencies thrown at them, and they end up trying to process highs, mids & lows all at the same time. This means that they're not as efficient as they should be. The BBE Sonic Maximiser fractionally alters when different frequencies reach the speaker, thus enabling it to process the frequencies more accurately. This gives a clearer, punchier tone that helps to tighten up the bottom end, enhances the mids & the highs. In a live mix, this helps you punch through with greater clarity and at lower volume.
